APS Naarm / Inner Melbourne
We are a group of local and native plant enthusiasts living in Inner Melbourne, on the land of Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung and Bunurong Boon Wurrung people.
We are an active and enthusiastic group with collective knowledge on a number of topics, such as propagation, gardening for wildlife, plant identification and conservation. Expertise varies from novice to professional. Come and share love and passion for our native flora and ecosystems
Our aims
We are passionate about
- Emphasising the ecological importance of locally indigenous plants of Naarm / Inner Melbourne to the land and community
- Supporting urban wildlife through encouraging the use of local and native plants in residential gardens.
- The value of inter-generational relationships, life-long learning and friendships
- Making this district group, the Australian Plant Society and the knowledge held accessible to the broader community
- Making propagation, gardening and field work accessible for people that don’t have a garden of their own
We do this by
- Building local plant & ecological literacy in the membership and empowering them to spread the word
- Creating spaces for people to learn about the significant local remnant and rehabilitated areas of Naarm / Inner Melbourne
- Connecting with and promoting the work of like-minded community groups and collectives
- Participating in hands-on activities, spending time together in the field, camping, adventuring, planting, weeding and exploring

What happens at our meetings?
Main Event – Guest Speaker
Each meeting a guest speaker presents on a topic related to the group’s interests. We invite a diverse range of experts in ecology, horticulture, botany and allied disciplines. Pretty much anyone cool doing something exciting in the local / native plant space who has something to say, and something for us to learn.
Raffle / seed bank / plant sale
We have a raffle each meeting with some awesome plants, books or seeds as prizes. We have a plant sale table where you can purchase local / native plants grown by members. Members can also pick up some seeds from our group’s seed bank.
“Plants on a table”
Members and guests are encouraged to bring plant material in for discussion. It could be a cutting, something in a pot, or even a photograph. Anything from what’s looking good in your garden, something you saw that you’d like ID’d, an interesting plant you saw or a plant that you’d like need help growing.

Share a cuppa and a sweet treat with us after the speaker finishes (vegan and GF options provided)
